Import Duties and Tax - A Guide for Non-UK Customers
What is an import duty or tax?
An import duty or tax, is simply a term used by customs officials in the recipient country, which represents the additional charges that an imported good incurs upon entry into the country.
At SCP Automotive, by law, we are required to submit accurate data to these officials in order for your government, state or other power, to collect the additional charges which are calculated from the value of your order.
How does this affect me?
For example; a shipment with the value of $60 containing ABS Plastic Handle Covers, being sent from our UK Warehouse to the United States will incur an import charge of $3.18 assuming an import tax of 5.3%. Other costs may also be present including a clearance charge.
How can I calculate the estimated import tax for my shipment?
We would advise to use a Import Duty Calculator, like this one here.
Unfortunately, due to the volume of orders, our team is currently unable to calculate how much the estimated import charge is. However we are working on a simplified and streamlined solution to this, built right into our website.
